‘BLOODHOUND is Operational’. In 3 words BLOODHOUND’s Operations Director, Martyn Davidson, summed up the fantastic achievements of our month at Newquay. We had just completed our first public runs, in front of a crowd of 3500 media, sponsors and supporters.

BLOODHOUND roared into life right on cue. Several months ago, we committed to getting the Car to Newquay Airport at the end of September, to start our ‘slow speed’ (200 mph) UK runway tests.

Just a few weeks now until the BLOODHOUND team deploys the Car to Newquay for the first time. We’re planning to be down there before the end of September, to get the workshop set up in one of the old hardened aircraft shelters, ready to start testing at the beginning of October.

As we complete each piece of the BLOODHOUND SSC, the October runs at Newquay feel a little closer. The surprising part of this process is that there are a lot of engineering judgements to be made as we build up the Car.

BLOODHOUND is Go! That’s the phrase we’ve been waiting for and now the dates are confirmed: we’ll be blasting the Car down the runway at Newquay in Cornwall at the end of October.

I never fail to be struck by the power of BLOODHOUND to tell its science and technology story. Perhaps this should not be a surprise.

Work continues as we prepare BLOODHOUND SSC to run at Newquay later on this year. While it’s tempting to become frustrated about how long this is taking, a recent comment by an independent project management company put it in perspective for me.

Piece by piece, BLOODHOUND SSC is coming together. While the process is slow, it’s exciting to see more bits of the Car working for the first time, ready to start testing the Car later on this year.

Wednesday, 1 February, 2017

It’s been an interesting start to the New Year, with various bits of the Car being tested as we slowly get BLOODHOUND SSC ready to run. We’ve still got a long way to go, but it’s terrific to see systems being assembled for final installation in the most advanced straight-line racing car ever.

I was lucky enough to spend a couple of days in India this month with the ‘GREAT Britain’ Campaign, supporting the India/UK TECH Summit. It was a very high-powered event, with opening speeches by Prime Minister Modi of India and the UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

With just one year – 365 days – to go until we’ll be running BLOODHOUND SSC on the desert in South Africa, work continues to get the Car ready.

Tuesday, 4 October, 2016

Exactly 12 months ago we held the public launch of the nearly completed Car. It was obvious that we had a winner, now we just had to find the right partner to help us get it finished.
