BLOODHOUND Ambassador Chris Henley makes a second visit to Matravers School in Wiltshire.

This was a return journey to Matravers School in Westbury, Wiltshire for another STEM evening.  My visit in October 2011 must have been a success as I had been invited back!  This time I had written a short Powerpoint presentation which I had intended to display on my stand.  However, Miss Venter, who had invited me, suggested that I played it on the large screen over the stage in the main hall and there it ran continuously for the entire evening.

When one of my science teachers told me about the Bloodhound project, I was immediately hooked. I went with some friends to see the show car at the Big Bang exhibition in March and was lucky enough to meet Richard Noble. He was an inspiration and gave us ideas and contacts so that we could set up a programme of primary school workshops as part of our volunteering for Duke of Edinburgh Gold.

This was a different sort of session from my usual ones, in that it was at a comprehensive school, my first, and it was in the evening.

A chance meeting in a local supermarket with a former teaching colleague led to exchanges of emails with the headteacher at St Thomas a Becket Primary School in Tilshead, in the middle of Salisbury Plain.  Mrs Trickey was keen for me to visit the school with my Bloodhound Roadshow.

Some time ago, I had an idea to paint the outline of Bloodhound SSC on a school playground.  I checked on the project website to see if any other school had done this and could find no mention of it.  We could have a world first!

We have recently received an email from Chew Stoke Primary School about their recent BLOODHOUND activity ...

My eleventh Bloodhound Roadshow was a return to my grandson’s school, St John’s Primary School, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, but this time to work with year six.  The day followed the usual format of Bloodhound Powerpoint presentation followed by building, testing and running the balloon-powered cars.  This was the first time that I had used the new design of the model car and when cut out and folded it certainly looked better that the two previous designs.

New Siemens Ambassador Frank Brandau sent us the story of how he was 'hooked' by Bloodhound, and his experience of inspiring young people in Switzerland. Read his story below ....

Over 25,000 visitors attended the three day National Big Bang Fair at the ExCel Centre in London as a prelude to National Science & Engineering Week. BLOODHOUND SSC was a major attraction amongst interactive stands featuring Siemens, Lockheed Martin, Intel, Rolls-Royce, Airbus, BAE Systems and many others. 

In support of Protocol National’s relationship with Doncaster College, the full size Show car and the Bloodhound Driving Experience visited Doncaster to promote the Educational aims of the Project to Students, Staff and the general public in the Doncaster Area.
