My eleventh Bloodhound Roadshow was a return to my grandson’s school, St John’s Primary School, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, but this time to work with year six. The day followed the usual format of Bloodhound Powerpoint presentation followed by building, testing and running the balloon-powered cars. This was the first time that I had used the new design of the model car and when cut out and folded it certainly looked better that the two previous designs.
I started with Class 11 and the children all began to build and test. The class competition was won by Sophie, whose car managed to travel 8.29 metres.
In Class 10, the winner was Katie, whose car travelled the length of the wooden floor. The front wheels then mounted the carpet edging and would have continued if the balloon had had enough puff to drive the back wheels over the edge. Her car travelled 12.97 metres.
Class 9 was last and Isaac’s car managed 9.13 metres.
We then had a playoff between the three best cars. Sophie must have given her balloon lots of extra puff, as her car drove over the carpet edging and onto the carpet coming to rest 13.38 metres from the start line. I then presented Sophie with a Bloodhound poster that had been signed by Andy Green. A great way for her to celebrate her eleventh birthday.
It was another very enjoyable day – for the children and for me – and I should like to thank Miss O’Connell for inviting me.
