Abraham Moss School in Manchester - Our interpretation of the project:

The Bloodhound SSC model rocket car project was launched to all Year 9 pupils at Abraham Moss High School on 9th February.  The pupils were introduced to the exciting world of engineering and the Bloodhound Project during morning assembly.  The pupils were then divided up into groups of 4.  In these groups they then studied different features of car design in their Maths and Science lessons for the rest of the week.  This included looking at how speed is calculated, the forces on the car, it's surface area and aerodynamics.

The next stage of the challenge is for the pupils to use the concepts studied to design a model Bloodhound rocket car.  To do this, all of the groups will use a template worksheet produced by the Design & Technology Department to add their design and ideas.  Members of the Science and D & T Departments will then judge these designs and the best 8 groups will be chosen to implement their designs.

The model cars (as well as supporting promotional material) will be built in a day off-timetable during Science & Engineering Week.

1 - The designs will be created using 2D design and manufactured using the CNC machine (CAD/CAM).  The cars will then be raced against each other in a drag race format.  After the races, the pupils will pesent their cars and the results to the rest of Year 9 during assembly.

2 - CPD is at the core of our school ethos and this project is providing opportunities for staff to share good practice, interesting approaches and innovative ideas across departments
