The BLOODHOUND Education programme not only reaches out across the curriculum and age ranges, but also into all sorts of schools, colleges and education establishments. We have recently delivered presentaions into Medway Secure Training Centre with great effect! Teacher at the centre Stacey McShane has written about their experiences for their Group's magazine, and we are please to reproduce it below:

"The Bloodhound Education Programme aims to motivate young people to enjoy and study science. The project gives young people the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge to develop and enable them to overcome challenges that they face. This project does not have boundaries or limitations on participation, its focus is to inspire all.

The Bloodhound Education Programme has allowed many disengaged young people see how Science and Engineering works. Understanding has been challenged and pushed to the extreme. These experiences bring the classroom to life and enhance everyday lives.

Initial presentations at the Centre have already successfully taken place with the Bloodhound SSC members. The programme has allowed our young people to participate in discussions and to begin to discuss concepts and ideas using scientific language.

As a Science Teacher these are the moments that make you smile,

“What makes the car go faster – the shape or the engines?”

The context in which Science is taught has an impact on accessibility, enjoyment and learning. The benefits of the Bloodhound Programme in conjunction with a full time education provision are clearly extremely positive and have a genuine impact on young people’s learning.

Future plans will focus on expanding the project to develop cross-curricular links in a number of curriculum areas. We hope to inspire young people to think, “out of the box” promoting a “can do” attitude which they will take with them into the community and their chosen career."
