There’s no shortage of budding scientists and engineers at Borden Grammar School, Sittingbourne, Kent where Key Stage 3 boys have been getting involved with the BLOODHOUND Education Programme by designing, building and testing their own model rocket cars.
For three years, Borden Grammar School has encouraged the boys to participate in the Bloodhound Education Programme. The awareness and enthusiasm for the project has grown year on year throughout the school.
This year 40 boys have got involved and they have enjoyed designing their own model rocket cars. The young scientists have tested their designs and although their model rocket cars are a long way off the 1000mph expected speed of BLOODHOUND, they have reached speeds which exceeded the national speed limit.
Putting learning into context
Mr Phil Stone, a Physics teacher at Borden Grammar School, said: “The BLOODHOUND Project is a fantastic way to inspire and engage young people in science and engineering. The project puts learning into context through fun and exciting activities which go far beyond the curriculum”.
The school recently received a letter from the BLOODHOUND’s chief engineer Mark Chapman to acknowledge their engineering adventure and the school’s commitment to the BLOODHOUND Education Programme.
