Design the key for BLOODHOUND SSC

Competition
Monday, 29 June, 2015

Enjoy drawing? Want to design the keys to the fastest car in the world – EVER? Well now you can.

I’m Sergeant Josh and I am helping to build the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car.

We are running a competition to design the keys to our 1000 mph car – imagine being part of history and having your amazing creation travel supersonic – covering four football pitches in one second!

The winning design will get a once in a lifetime visit to the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre in Bristol to see their key being made and also pick up a fab supersonic goodie bag.

My friend Craftsman Liz will tell you everything you need to know about how to submit your design – she is also the person who will be making your key when you come to visit...

Notes for parents, guardians and teachers

The background to this amazing initiative comes from the British Army’s involvement in the BLOODHOUND project. A small team of engineers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers have been using their cutting edge technical skill to help build the 1000 mph car.

The team have been out visiting schools to get children fired up about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as part of BLOODHOUND’s education initiative. This year, over 100,000 children have received a lesson on the science behind the car. Why not get your school involved? For more information see our BLOODHOUND BLAST channel.

To enter the competition you will need to download and complete the entry form. Information provided will only be used to contact the winning entrant – we will never pass your information to third parties.

INSTRUCTIONS

Hi I’m Craftsman Liz and I am going to be making the winning design at the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre – I can’t wait to see your ideas! Here is what you need to know to design your key:

  • We’ve started the drawing on the graph paper on the entry form to help you get going.
  • Use your imagination and come up with a supersonic idea.
  • Think about how you might hold the key and how it might work. What’s the best shape? What colour is it? Do you have an idea of what material it will be made from (metal or plastic….or maybe something else?)
  • Once you have finished your design – make sure you fill in all of the boxes and send your entry into us at 1000 mph!
