The Bloodhound team is saddened to learn of the death of Professor Dave Crolla, a founder member of the team. Dave was an authority on the dynamics and control of automobiles. This expertise was most valuable to the members of the Thrust SSC team when it tackled the daunting task of developing a rear-wheel steered car capable of travelling at supersonic speeds. It was natural that he should follow this by joining the Bloodhound team as its Dynamics and Control consultant. His contribution has been immense and his wisdom will be sadly missed.
Dave was born in July 1949. He spent much of his academic life as a Professor at Leeds University. There he wrote numerous books on his subject , and over 200 academic papers. He was a visiting Professor at Cranfield and a member of the RAEng amongst a long list of achievements. He was internationally recognised, had received numerous honours and was a member of many professional bodies. Away from academia he was a great character and very sociable. His outside interests included mountain biking, walking and playing Irish music. He died on Sunday 4th September while on a bicycling holiday in Somerset.
