Andy explains why steering matters at 1,000mph

The World Land Speed Record is measured as a car drives in a straight line, but you still need to steer in order to cope with surface irregularities and cross-winds. In his latest diary entry, Andy Green explains how BLOODHOUND’s power steering has been designed to make driving more precise and physically easier, while staying within the FIA rules.

Rob makes science fun!

There’s plenty of science behind BLOODHOUND, so we wanted to share some of that with kids (of all ages) – and who better to do that than our chief inspirer, Rob Bennett? In the first of our new series of videos, Rob explores how BLOODHOUND uses changes in temperature to make parts of the car fit together. Naturally, he has to experiment with liquid nitrogen to explain its ‘cool’ properties….

BLOODHOUND heads to Ohio, US

The BLOODHOUND Project has its first certified Ambassadors in the US, thanks to a two-year labour of love to deliver BLOODHOUND-based inspiration to children in Ohio, courtesy of sponsors Swagelok Company and Swagelok Bristol. Our very own Mike Ford led the Ambassador training and now the children are enjoying BLOODHOUND-themed lessons across a wide range of subjects. Our story tells how BLOODHOUND headed across the Atlantic, while Swagelok’s video captures how the children – and adults – have been inspired.

Providing BLOODHOUND inspiration at TEDx

BLOODHOUND’s Mike Ford recently took to the stage at the TEDxWarwick event to talk about the BLOODHOUND Project. The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organisations and individuals to spark conversation through local TED-like experiences, so Mike’s talk was a perfect fit! This video is an ideal introduction to the BLOODHOUND Project, but also has plenty of great content even if you are very familiar with what we do.

Primary school’s Race for the Line

Inspiration from the BLOODHOUND team at the BETT show last year led Jeremy Chaplin to set up a computer club at his local primary school and introduce the children to the BBC micro:bit. This year, when Race for the Line was opened up to primary schools for the first time, Brooke Primary School signed up straightaway, entering seven cars, one of which made it on to the national leader board! This is their story.

Rocket Car workshops are go!

We’re running our family Rocket Car Experience workshops again at the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre in Avonmouth, near Bristol, in the next half-term holiday. Each one features interactive presentations and a tour of the workshop, with a rare chance to see parts of the car that will one day break the World Land Speed Record. Every child can then build their very own rocket car and see how fast it goes!

Workshops are running on Wednesday 31st May and Friday 2nd June. Numbers are limited, however, so book now!
