BLOODHOUND SSC – a supersonic racing car designed to reach speeds of 1,000mph (1,600km/h).
Welcome to BLOODHOUND’s monthly newsletter, with the latest news about the Project and the build of the Car. Check out our website at www.bloodhoundssc.com for more information, videos and images.
BLOODHOUND’s debut date announced
The Car will make its world debut on November 17th 2015 with a 200mph trial at Newquay Aerohub, Cornwall. It will then be fitted with airbrakes and winglets ready to commence high-speed testing in Hakskeen Pan, South Africa, in Summer 2016, when weather conditions will be optimal. The results from the Summer 2016 tests will inform the Project’s ultimate speed goal of setting a new World Land Speed Record of 1,000mph. We will invite 1K Club Gold members to obtain Newquay tickets in due course.
Competition – design the Car’s key!
Enjoy drawing? Want to design the keys to the fastest car in the world – EVER? Well now you can. We’re running a competition in conjunction with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME) to design the keys to our 1,000mph car, giving you the chance to be part of history and have your amazing creation travel supersonic! The winning designer will get a once-in-a-lifetime visit to the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre in Bristol to see their key being made and also pick up a fab supersonic goodie bag. The deadline for the competition is 24th July (remember to allow time to post your entries!)
Latest Car news
BLOODHOUND looks more like a car (well, a supersonic car!) every month. These are among the latest developments as we move through the final stages of building BLOODHOUND SSC.
Side panels fitted
The Project takes another key step forward as the carbon composite side panels have been painted and fitted to the car. These cover the trellis section that joins the upper and lower rear chassis.

Parachute deployment tests
Jaguar and BLOODHOUND’s driver Andy Green recently performed vital high-speed parachute tests at a former RAF base in Suffolk. Andy drove a Jaguar F-Type R Coupé at 186mph with a modified rear window and structural supports through which BLOODHOUND's unique teardrop shaped parachute cans were mounted directly to the car's chassis. Andy released the parachute using a cockpit-mounted button, subjecting the F-Type to an instantaneous drag force equivalent to 1 tonne that dramatically slowed the car before Green brought it to a controlled stop.
Andy Green has minor incident at Goodwood
BLOODHOUND driver Andy Green had a minor incident recently when driving the new Jaguar XJR Rapid Response vehicle at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Misjudging its power, he got caught out at Molecome corner, landing in the hay bales. No one was injured in the incident and the track was soon re-opened. As Andy said afterwards, "Luckily for The BLOODHOUND Project, there aren't many corners in land speed racing!" However, the BLOODHOUND team is now considering some minor modifications for the Car, as you can see….!
