BLOODHOUND SSC

Message from Richard Noble

Richard Noble

It’s no secret that BLOODHOUND has been going through a rough time and we are late – it’s still a secret that BLOODHOUND is now developing very strongly.

Of course we had planned to make the 800mph runs in 2017 – but our difficulty has been cash flow and the essential linkage between successive deals. The key is the ability to structure payments so that we have a reliable steady cash inflow and that’s proved incredibly difficult.

BLOODHOUND is a pretty tough call on the sponsors at the best of times – it gets even tougher when there is uncertainty in the economy and payments default or are late.

It has also been very tough on our friends in South Africa who now have the Hakskeen Pan desert ready to go. However, we will now be with them in late 2018 and there is a real buzz in the workshop in Avonmouth as we all realise that this is going to happen.

What we are experiencing now is the sheer strength and commitment of the BLOODHOUND Team – the Car will run in Newquay in October and the public response has been incredible. We saw this at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and we are now getting entire car clubs wanting to take part at Newquay – it is beginning to look like an automotive Woodstock. If you haven’t already made plans to join us at Newquay, there are still tickets available.

Funds are still incredibly tight however, so please consider taking part in our Crowdfunding programme as this is a very rare chance to acquire something very special from the BLOODHOUND Project.

Our next moves are to increase the huge STEM education programme and to land as many as possible of the next large sponsorship deals as we can. We’ve also been invited to run the Car at the Dubai Airshow. And our Team is going to continue working on the Car, of course.

Thank you for your help and support.

Richard Noble, BLOODHOUND Project Director

Crowdfunding: Go flying with Andy Green – and more

We have set up a fantastic Crowdfunding opportunity to give BLOODHOUND supporters the chance to get their hands on BLOODHOUND souvenirs and experiences – some of which are completely unique! You can donate for rewards that include:

  • a skin pin
  • a titanium nose cone
  • having your very own piece of aluminium from the creation of the World’s fastest wheels
  • a range of limited edition collectors’ models of the Car
  • ... right up to the development BLOODHOUND seat signed by Andy Green, Richard Noble and others in the Team.

You can also be one of just two people to be taken flying by Andy, during which you’ll experience G-forces equivalent to those he will feel when he breaks the World Land Speed Record in South Africa. If you want to get an idea what this might entail, watch this brilliant excerpt from Chris Harris’s video when he went flying with Andy.

The Crowdfunding campaign will run for another 3 weeks only, so don’t delay! All the money will go towards the Project, supporting us as we head to Newquay and underpinning our STEM educational activities.

More items will be added over the next few weeks, so follow us on social media to find out more.

Latest Car news

As the Team prepares BLOODHOUND SSC for the runs at Newquay in October, it’s all go at the Technical Centre (BTC). Among the work this month:

  • The EJ200 jet engine that will be used for the runway and desert runs has arrived!
  • The anchor points have been fitted to the monocoque and the seat can now be easily installed and removed to precisely the same position each time.
  • Work has been underway on both the front and rear suspension.
  • The carbon ‘blade’ has been put in place.

So the Car is really coming together, but there's a great deal still to do before the first turn of the jet engine.

Andy Green’s latest diary

BLOODHOUND’s driver Andy Green is obviously excited about the prospect of driving the Car at Newquay in October, but explains that the event is about more than just driving it down the runway and showing it to spectators. A key part of the testing will be the data logging and analysis, making sure nearly 200 pressure sensors are all working. Read his latest diary entry to find out what the Team will be doing at Newquay and more about the vital tests before, during and after the runs.
