BLOODHOUND SSC – a supersonic racing car designed to reach speeds of 1,000mph (1,600km/h).

BLOODHOUND SSC

Hello.

We achieved a great deal in 2017, very much against the odds. We heard the Car roar for the first time when the Team went operational at Cornwall Airport Newquay. With Andy in the cockpit, we made 19 dynamic runs on the runway to shake the car down and test key systems. Over 9,500 fans, including 3,500 school children, and the world's media came to see the Car's public debut.

We head into 2018 with incredible momentum and a huge feeling of confidence. We've set out plans for high speed testing up to 500mph on the Hakskeen Pan, South Africa in September and October.

Seeing BLOODHOUND run is inspiring, seeing it live is unforgettable. We have a unique opportunity to join the team as we run on the Kalahari desert racetrack for the first time. Places are limited so reserve your place and don’t miss out.

Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas.

BLOODHOUND targets 500mph in 2018

Following the successful 200mph (320kmh) UK runway trials at Cornwall Airport Newquay in October 2017, we plan to run BLOODHOUND SSC for the first time at Hakskeen Pan, Northern Cape, South Africa, in October 2018. The target is 500mph – a key milestone on the journey to setting a new World Land Speed Record. This will let the Team test the performance and handling, and use the desert wheels and parachute brake for the first time.

But we’re not going alone – we’re inviting supporters to join us in South Africa in 2018 to see the Car run, and more. We have 500 ‘Access All Areas’ places available for pre-booking at this historic BLOODHOUND 500 event, where you can join us as part of the desert team and get a unique insider’s view of the Team in action. We are inviting sponsors and Gold 1K Club members to book places first, and will then offer the remaining places to Bronze 1K Club members and other supporters early in 2018.

We look forward to sharing this exciting next stage of our Engineering Adventure with you in 2018!

Build a Rocket Car for Christmas!

You don’t have to wait until 2018 to see a rocket car run. Instead, do something different with the family this Christmas – take time out from the rush to enjoy a Rocket Car Experience at the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre in Avonmouth, near Bristol. Enjoy interactive presentations, build your own rocket car and see the real BLOODHOUND Car. Every child will also go home with their own goodie bag. There are two 3-hour workshops 29 December. Numbers are limited, however, so book now!

Andy Green’s Diary

It’s been quite a year for all of the BLOODHOUND Team, and none more so than Andy Green. In his last diary entry for 2017 – the year that he drove BLOODHOUND SSC for the first time – Andy reminds us what we’ve achieved and looks forward to another amazing year to come, when he will drive the Car at more than twice the speed he did in Newquay. Few can predict how that will actually feel, but Andy has a pretty good idea…

Support BLOODHOUND

The BLOODHOUND Project is funded by sponsorship and donations from individual members of the public, small and medium-sized businesses, and global corporations. Every last bit of money raised goes towards helping us create something special, with a lasting legacy of inspiration for our future generation of scientists and engineers.

One key way to support us is to buy BLOODHOUND merchandise from our online shop. We have a new 2017 Corgi model of the Car, BLOODHOUND-branded clothing including Newquay t-shirts, (or save £5 by buying a Newquay T shirt and a model together!) Newquay souvenir programmes with brand new articles about the Project, and many other new items that would make great Christmas presents.
